Sergeant Stone's Punch & Judy

1 April
New Oriental Hotel, Brighton

First Zap’ gig
The first Zap’ gig was organised by Neil Butler and Amanda Webb in the New Oriental Hotel. They recruited Ian Smith as compere and the evening included poet Roger Ely, X-rated Punch & Judy Sergeant Stone and local band Resident Zero.

The legendary New York journalist and biographer of Dylan, Robert Sheldon, positively reviewed it and the club started up monthly. It soon went fortnightly and then weekly with an anarchic mixture of performance, poetry, comedy and music.
