1983

After its first gig the Zap Club moved from venue to venue. This didn’t give it much of a chance to develop, which is why in 1983 Dave Reeves, Neil and Pat Butler (who replaced Amanda Webb) - started hatching a plot to find a permanent home for the club.

They chose a council owned site in the covered arches on the seafront, opposite Ship Street and set about converting it into a cavern-like club with a proper stage, bar and seating area - an onerous task involving the digging out of 150 tons of earth below ground level.

Meanwhile, the Wild Wigglers wiggled on and Dave, Neil and Pat were joined by Angie Livingstone (now Goodchild), who came to the club’s rescue with a much-needed injection of capital.
