19877 - 29 August
Rose Street, Edinburgh
Rose Street Carnival
Following on from 1986s Elephant Tent, Zap Productions was invited to organise the first of many events to coincide with the Edinburgh Festival. Apart from appearing at the popular basement Pub, which served as a temporary home for the Zap Club, performers such as Ian Smith and Roger Ely terrorised the pubs along Rose Street pretending to be gangsters.
During the day, the street hosted a daily carnival of unicyclists, buskers, bands, jugglers, comedians and clowns and a Zap Video Festival in Elders. All the work on show took music as a starting point, combining it with images to create an exciting new art form.
