Sheffield Plays at Home Festival
Zap created two outdoor theatre events to top and tail the Sheffield Plays at Home Festival during the European Football Championships in June 1996.

This launch event was a unique collaboration between two British street performance companies Neighbourhood Watch Stilts International and Urban Strawberry Lunch. Against the thumping rhythms and haunting music of USL’s bizarre musical ensemble, huge alien beings from the planet Spectra invaded the arena to perform an unearthly pyrotechnic ritual before departing.

The finale to Sheffield Plays at Home, ’Le Grand Gigantomachie’ was presented by internationally renowned Plasticiens Volants. It featured a huge inflatable creature (half woman, half bird) that flew over the arena and surrounding streets seeking sanctuary in a public place with an audience to watch its antics.
