The Arches, Brighton
Opening of the Arches
One hundred performances after its first opening night and six years after the idea was first formed the Zap Club got a permanent home in two arches (191/193 Kings Road) converted by architect Anthony Browne.
Staff and artists volunteered labour, from digging out foundations to painting the damp walls with endless coats of waterproofing. This enabled the club to open its doors in a permanent base for seven days a week, fifty weeks a year.
