5th Tunbridge Wells Winter Street Festival

2001

28 December – 29 December

5th Tunbridge Wells Winter Street Festival
2001 saw the fifth Tunbridge Wells Winter Street Festival. As in 2000 the Courier Newspaper group and Invicta FM sponsored the street arts programme, although this year Royal Victoria Place added further sponsorship to fund an indoor street arts programme within the shopping centre. This took place every Sunday during the festive month of December and offered a sneak preview of what the festival had to offer. For example, Christmas shoppers were exposed to artwork works in retail outlet on the theme of the Art of Shopping and were likely to meet the intrepid and incompetent explorer Indiana Smith who’s Mountain Gorillas cavorted around the shopping centre.

The Street Festival itself spanned two days with a denser, higher impact programme than in previous years culminating in ?Midwinter Madness’, two processions of ?fire’ and ?ice’ leading to a spectacular firework finale.
